A Guide to Visiting ALQUEMA at QVB

The ALQUEMA flagship sits on Level One of the Queen Victoria Building, Shop 7-9, in the centre of Sydney. This is what to expect on a first visit.

Getting there: enter from George Street and take the escalators or lift to Level One. Shop 7-9 sits among the building's boutique tenants, past the ground-floor department stores and cafes.

The boutique rack itself is worth pausing at. It runs through the centre of the store, and each piece gets its own space rather than being packed onto a rail, so the print and the pleat are visible before you touch anything.

The fabric is worth feeling in person, especially if you've only shopped ALQUEMA online. The pleats hold their shape without ironing and shift with the light as you move around a piece. Staff on the floor can talk you through sizing across the label's cuts, since the pleating gives more flexibility than a standard size chart suggests.
